New Podcast
Indie Film Producer is a monthly podcast that began airing on March 2, 2021. It is billed as “a podcast about independent producing, and things that are interesting to producers.” The podcast is hosted by producer Geoff Arbourne, with new episodes released the first Tuesday of every month.
“The podcast has featured appearances from many notable people in the world of film and TV, including Uberto Pasolini, Michèle Ray-Gavras, Rebecca O’Brien, Sut Jhally, Olesya Gidrat, Cúán Mac Conghail and others.”
Why start a podcast?
I’ve now been working as a producer for the last 10 years, my previous film African Apocalypse has just been released at the London Film Festival. My one before that, Forever Pure, premiered at TIFF and one numerous awards including an Emmy. The reason I say this, is even though I have a small track record I’m increasingly aware that I need to learn more. Especially about what it means to be an independent film producer.
At the moment I have a couple of films in development, and two in postproduction, through various forms of funding but the idea of being independent still seems very abstract. And perhaps even more so with the rise of global platforms.
“So I thought why don’t I start a podcast, asking the most prominent independent producers on the planet, what does an independent film producer look like today? What has been successful, what has gone wrong, and what needs to be done next.”
My hope is that I will learn something along the way, engage in a discussion with other producers and people from within the industry, as well as people keen to hear more about independent cinema and TV.
