In AMERICAN UNION, filmmaker Brett Wallace captures the resilience and determination of two communities in small-town Alabama at the forefront of a resurgent American labour movement. Through intimate, behind-the-scenes access and hundreds of hours of vérité footage, the film bears witness to a pivotal moment in the struggle for workers’ rights and the future of work in the United States.
The documentary follows Braxton and Haeden Wright, a coal mining family, and Jennifer Bates, an Amazon worker, as they navigate the challenges, setbacks and triumphs of union organising. Their stories reveal how collective action transforms not only workplaces but the lives of ordinary people and the communities they call home.
