‘A Portrait of a Community on the Edge.’
STORY
Filmed over seven years, FORTY-FIVE ACRES is an intimate portrait of an East London housing estate and the remarkable people who call it home. As gentrification and redevelopment edge ever closer, residents face an uncertain future while navigating housing insecurity, addiction, loss and the everyday struggle to hold their community together.
Returning to the same characters over time, the film reveals the rhythms of daily life with warmth, honesty and compassion. Moments of joy, humour and resilience sit alongside hardship, offering a nuanced portrait of a community rarely seen beyond the headlines.
Part observational documentary, part collective portrait, FORTY-FIVE ACRES explores belonging, displacement and the emotional cost of a changing city, asking what happens when the place that defines your identity begins to disappear.
