My Father's House

‘A Son. A Father. A Lifetime of Unanswered Questions.’

STORY

Nine years after the death of his father, filmmaker Mahdi Fleifel returns to the small Danish town where he grew up. Carrying a worn Samsonite suitcase filled with photographs, home movies and forgotten memories, he begins a deeply personal search to understand the man who remained an enigma throughout his life.

As Mahdi pieces together his father’s extraordinary journey—from a Palestinian refugee camp to Dubai and finally Denmark—the film becomes an intimate meditation on memory, exile and belonging. Through family archives, personal narration and conversations across generations, past and present gradually merge into a portrait of both a family and a people shaped by displacement.

Part family memoir, part cinematic essay, MY FATHER’S HOUSE is a profoundly moving exploration of loss, reconciliation and the enduring bond between a father and his son. Returning to the deeply personal filmmaking that first established his voice, Mahdi Fleifel creates his most intimate film to date.
